Transportation Situation and Outlook Conference (TOC2008)

This conference is a leadership forum to review and assess the future impact of major transportation issues. World intermodal freight transport and in particular container trade patterns are rapidly evolving and impacting on the competitiveness of various components of the global transportation system. The increasing importance for the demand of containerized services, particularly from the Asian market contributed to traffic congestion along the major North American Pacific ports, their intermodal (rail & trucking) network connections (land bridge) as well as on the Panama Canal. This situation has prompted the Panama Canal Authority to invest $5.5 billion for expanding its capacity. Meanwhile, shippers are considering a variety of trade routes to reach the North American markets through its Eastern and Gulf Coasts via an expanded Panama Canal and the Suez Canal. The conference will assess the impact of these developments on present and future North American transportation system.
